Agreement between universities in New Zealand and Brazil facilitates exchange programs

The second safest country in the world, according to the Global Peace Index 2018 , New Zealand is among the ten destinations most sought after by Brazilians for an experience abroad. Besides offering a calmer life, with insignificant indexes of violence, this country, situated in the southwest of the Pacific Ocean, is outstanding for its beautiful natural landscapes, and its high quality of life. It is also the fourth favorite destination of Brazilian exchange students, according to the Pesquisa de Mercado Selo Belta 2018, which led the Government of New Zealand to strengthen its ties to Brazil.

With the aim of facilitating the exchange of professors and students, as well as an exchange of experiences between universities and research institutions in both countries, eleven academicians were sent to Brazil in order to discuss cooperation agreements for innovation and technology. In a meeting with representatives of CAPE Latin America, the delegation from New Zealand included professors and managers from the seven main universities in the country: Aukland University of Technology, Lincoln University, Massey University, University of Aukland, University of Canterbury, University of Otago, Victoria University of Wellington.

According to the Brazilian Educational & Language Travel Association (Belta) – which assembles the main Brazilian institutions that work with exchanges – the meetings between the academicians from New Zealand and from Brazil explored possibilities for developing joint activities and strengthening a partnership attractive to exchange students from both countries, facilitating scholarships for the next years.

It is worth noting that, according to the ranking of the Education for the Future Index, (The Economist Intelligence Unit), New Zealand is the country that best prepares its students for the future. Especially at the university level, with 8 universities among the 3% best in the world, according to the QS World University Ranking 2019.
