It’s undeniable that Covid-19 has changed our way of traveling, especially by plane. In orderto regain the flux of international trips, health certificates such as tests and vaccinations will be increasingly required. Thinking about the huge challenge of gathering and providing information about sanitary requirements, the International Association of Air Transport (IATA) has developed an app that promises to act as a travel pass.
The IATA Travel Pass, available in the Apple Store, warns passengers of the requirement of tests or vaccination in order to enter a certain country; enables air companies to inform passengers about sanitary requirements and to verify if they have complied to those requirements; provide local governments with the means to verify the authenticity of the tests or vaccination; and contribute to allowing laboratories to issue certificates that are valid for different localities and serve as passes.
On accessing the app,the user can save a digital version of his passport, verify his identity and add the data of his flight to information about the requirement of tests or vaccination related to his destination. The creators of the app believe that the storage and sharing of this data safely and with privacy will help local governments to feel safer opening their borders, which will impact the flux of trips.
