The Circuit of Mineral Waters of Minas Gerais is considered one of the largest mineral waters complexes in the world. Caxambu, located in the south of the state, is part of that circuit. This small inland town is well-known for its springs of mineral waters with medicinal properties.
In the 19th century, Brazil’s imperial family always went there for the waters’ properties, as well as to enjoy the mild temperatures that predominate in southern Minas Gerais for most of the year.

The small-town atmosphere of Caxambu adds to its charm. To enjoy it, take a drive in a horse-drawn buggy around the town center, and shop for delicacies such as “doce de leite” (milk sweet), ambrosia, jellies and fruit compotes, and dozens of varieties of locally produced cheese.
