People who intend to visit the United States may have to wait for a long time. And now we are not speaking about restrictions related to the new coronavirus, but about the long waiting time for the B1/B2 visa destined for tourism. According to information from the USA Embassy, people interested in disembarking on American soil may wait up to 354 days if they live in São Paulo. The wait is still long, but falls to almost half, up to a little over 200 days, in other Brazilian capitals.
Considering the cities with the most requests for visas, besides São Paulo, in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia the time falls to 252 days, that is, about 8 months. In Porto Alegre, the wait is a little shorter: about 232 days. People that live in Recife must wait for 204 days. It’s worth noting that for the renewal of the visa the waiting time is much shorter (but not informed by the Consulate).
Other types of visas are issued in much shorter times. Such is the case of the issue of the document for students, which currently takes from 1 to 5 weekdays. According to the United States Embassy, it is recommended that those interested in visiting the country should, before buying their tickets and planning their trip, take under consideration the long wait and possible new delays. Those who are already scheduled may alter the date at no cost, but they must consider the new dates provided on the Embassy site.
Good News only for immigrants that are already in the United State
In an official communication, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) have announced that immigrants, as well as those who have already requested asylum in the country, may continue working up to the deadline of 540 days, even after the due date of the work visa. The previous law determined a period of 180 days, which was added and extended to 360 days more.
