France: from the immigrant world champions to the opportunities for foreigners

With 19 “foreigners” among the 48 football champions of the world, France showed, during the World Cup of 2018, that immigration is the purest proof of the importance of cultural interchange. Way beyond football, know how to try for a job opportunity in one of the world’s most charming countries.

Besides its good football, France’s national team, champion of the 2018 World Cup, charmed the world with its ethnic pluralism, or, in other words, by the strength that immigrants bring to their destination country. Just to have an idea, of the 23 players summoned by coach Didier Deschamps, 19 could have played in other national teams, either by birth or by parentage.

The importance of this cultural interchange isn’t limited to the world of football, since, despite the conservative resistance of France – as in many other countries – foreigners have their place in several professions in France, considered one of the most charming countries in the world.

How to find a job in France

Finding a job in France is not too difficult if your situation is legal. From here in Brazil, it’s possible – after applying for a visa – to apply for a job opening in multinational French companies, either through their sites or through their profiles in Linkedin. Another tip is to enroll in recruitment agencies (such as Adecco or Manpower, for example), besides, of course, after stepping on French soil, to seek out the Pôle d’Emploi, a public organ that offers job openings.

Program grants work visas for one year

Proof of this is the launching of the “Vacation – Work Program” between France and Brazil, operative since March this year. The bilateral agreement, aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 30, allows Frenchmen and Brazilians to receive a free visa for up to one year. Although it isn’t automatically renewable, demanding that the immigrant returns to the country of origin to renew the visa, the program is far from bureaucratic, and allows for a vast and enriching cultural and professional experience. It’s important to note that the work visa is not only for territorial France, but also for French Guiana, the departments of the French Antilles, and also the European and ultramarine departments of the French Republic.

According to the French embassy, the application for a long term visa does not extend to companions and does not allow for an application for residence after one year. The application must be made at least two months before the move to France.
