If you’re planning to go on an exchange program in Latin America, you must pay attention to the QS World University Rankings 2018, the annual university classifications published by the publishing house Quacquarelli ,Symonds, in the United Kingdom. Together with the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the Academic Classification of World Universities, it’s one of the most influential international classifications of universities, observed all over the world. Brazil is outstanding among the 20 first places of Latin America, occupying seven positions, followed by Chile, which, besides heading the list, holds four positions, as well as Colombia. Teaching institutions in Mexico, Argentina, Cuba and Costa Rica are also mentioned.

In November of last year, the Secretary of the Brazilian IRS (Receita Federal), Jorge Antonio Deher Rachid, published in the Brazilian Official Journal of Union (Diário Oficial da União) an update of the norm for international shipments. According to the federal organ, the Normative Instruction RFB n⁰1847 of 2018 (read in full at https://bit.ly/2CVSi4U) – which replaces the Normative Instruction RFB n⁰1737 of 2017 – is aimed at “reducing the use of forms when dispatching exports via international shipments, as well as allowing a business certified as an OEA freight forwarder to begin its operations in a secondary zone customs bonded terminal, under the conditions determined by the norm”, informs the text published on the official site.

Have you ever heard of a “Letter of Acceptance”? If you intend to do an exchange, whether for a master’s degree or a doctorate, in a foreign university, you’ll need this document that represents no less than your acceptance to the desired course. Offered by the future advisor of the project, and approved by the university, the letter is your ticket to enter the exchange, obtained, of course, after your declaration of intention to the one that will guide your project, as well as by sending the documents required by the teaching institution. That is: the main tip for your candidacy is to know all about the information in the notice about the criteria of the advisors and the documentation required by the place of your choice.

The old saying that you can leave Brazil, but that Brazil never leaves you, has never been truer. At least, when speaking of explanations to the Receita Federal (IRS). Whether temporarily or definitively, whoever no longer lives on Brazilian soil must report to the government. The law is valid independently of the reason for, or condition of, the expatriation: work, study, or long trip. In short, every Brazilian that is a fiscal resident of Brazil – hasn’t delivered his Statement of Exit – but hasn’t lived in the country for a period shorter than 12 consecutive months, must present normally their annual income tax return.
